Installing a Windows Backup Image

In order to install a windows image you must first have an image for this I have a blog created that covers the subject.

The backup file is an ISO file which you need an app that can read such files. One of such applications are “ghost” which is the one we used for this example. To run ghost we used a PXE server that has ghost installed which allows things to run off of the server instead of the PC.

To begin you must power on the computer and open the boot options by pressing the assigned key which for this computer was F12. While in the boot setting you must select to run off of the server instead of the computer which will reboot the computer and at which point you can choose the application which for us was “ghost.wim” and then input the password that is set previously.

After entering the password it does not bring up the command line so we must close ghost and it will bring up a command line prompt in which we must type “ghost64 -ntexact”.

For this process we have the backup on a hard drive that is plugged in to the computers USB port and we are installing the backup to the computer so in order to do this we must click to bring up the drop down menu and go to local and then disk and then click from image.

Once this is done we must find the image location and select it. Then we must select the destination to install it onto the operating system. If a question pop up appears click yes. Then choose the one labeled OS as we are installing a new OS and then click yes and wait until complete.
